Dropbox is one of my favorite tools to manage shared stuff – and I was happy with 8GB for free… 2GB with the Basic Account type and 6GB when promoting dropbox to friends. Currently I own 5.25GB there.
But these days there came BOX.NET to my recognition – they through 50GB to you for free!

How to get it? Really easy going – just download and install the iOS App here and create a free account within the next 48 days.
From now on I’ll post on a not regular basis a short description about apps I like to use.
Today I want to show you the most used app on my devices – iPhone4, iPhone3, iPad and on my MacBook Pro – even on my USB-Sticks and the cloud: 1Password

Purpose of the app:
1Password stores your account / license / access informations;
Costs:
Mac & Windows: € 39.99
iPhone & iPad: € 11.99

I’m living in Austria – and that means for me not to have access to all the good stuff iTunes provides to users from the US or even DE where I live nearby.
So for example I love it to read – but the books which are available in Austria via the iTunes bookstore are only ‘free’ ones – from the Project Gutenberg.
Another point is that many apps are not available outside the US store…
So – what to do?

In the past – well, in the very past 😉 I was using PCs to shrink my DVDs so that I could put them onto my PS3. As an tool I used the popular Windows app called ‘SHRINK’ to get this job done.
Nowadays I’m back on a Mac (MacBook Pro) and I was searching for a tool similar to ‘SHRINK’. It didn’t took me that long to find some – but the best choice for me was clearly ‘HandBrake’ – a very powerful tool.
The problem I always had was that my PS3 stick to the codecs SONY provides… so no MKV e.g.
Shrinking the vids with other codecs than AVI always ended in the problem that there was no 5.1 surround sound afterwards. So I always had to move with AVI containers. Then – some time ago – the guys of ‘HandBrake’ decided to get rid of the AVI container because it’s not state of the art any more… toooo old format.
That meant for me to stick to an old version of HandBrake which was able to convert the DVDs to an AVI file with 5.1 sound.

Apples 12-days-of-christmas app is already available – and as we all know that means that we again will receive one download for free between the 26th december and the 6th of January.
But this year there’s something new… it already started today 🙂
Download the app and get here and get your first christmas gift!

The iPhone is still missing a view within the calendar app to show events in a week-view – and that’s really bad…
But – as we all know – ‘there’s an app for’ almost everything.
Week Calendar (for € 1.59 in the app-store) allows you to manage all your calendar-entries which you setup with your standard cal-app and you can of course setup new events. It’s using the standard cal-app as source. And if you create new entries in the week calendar app they are also available then in the standard cal-app – so you won’t miss any entry.
There are many shortcuts used within WeekCal to get it more convenient to use – e.g.
- double clicking toggles the view from weekly to daily and back,
- tapping and holding creates a new entry,
- swiping moves you forward or backward in the timeline…
Many possibilities to setup your ‘personal’ calender – so a highly recommended app… a must-have!
